I wanted a way to quickly generate new Spotify playlists from my library based on some simple user inputs. There are probably a bunch of songs floating around in old playlists that you will never listen to again so the Spotify Playlist Recycling Plant is an attempt to resurrect these forgotten gems! At the heart of this tool is a simple custom algorithm that uses Spotify's 5000+ unique genres to find similar artists. It works well for my purposes but everybody uses Spotify differently so I'd love some feedback :) Built using React and the Spotify Web API.

The thought of returning to corporate working kind of disgusts me. daily meetings, middle management bs, politics, bureaucracy... im sure your familiar with the typical complaints. Ive realized I don't seem to have any money generating skills, the only thing I seem actually be good at is making money for other people. So im wondering if anyone has been able to use their coding skill to make a living that isn't working in a business. Things ive tried and thought about(please correct anything that seems wrong!): monetizing hobbies - I see why people don't recommend this, im not good enough anyway. to old to go pro at sports, not good enough or have credentials to teach. coding tutoring and teaching - i tried this on codementor.io, there's more mentors then people needing help, its competitive and doesn't pay much when you consider how much extra work goes into it. I also don't have a CS degree so it doesn't seem like I can teach at a school. Maybe there are better ways to teach? bug bounty chasing - I thought this would be easier then it really is. i guess its like a whole different skill set, interesting as a hobby but its going to take to long to get good. and its competitive make a company or sell a thing software thing - I can code up my dream ideas with ease, what i don't know how to do is market anything or get users. seems to be another skill that will take months and maybe not even turn out to do anything freelance - compared to just working rates seem low and its hard to find work from what ive seen If you have cool ideas or something worked out for you, id be interested in hearing them! Everything seemed to go fine until later, I saw the link was Apple Music, not Spotify. Alice likely never listened to it because we only ever share Spotify links. Also what is happening behind the scenes to give Apple the song from Spotify? Are they just accessing current song on Spotify? What if they don't have it on Apple Music? Or are they running pattern recognition on the audio output to determine song?

I've heard this being said about mathematics and we know that both programming and math are logic based and pretty much require the same thinking techniques and programming is derived from math. So, wouldn't it be true that it's a young man's game for programming too? You only see top programmers who started as kids and probably won some Olympiads and programming competitions, and this continued in their 20s and maybe kept their skill up till 30s but that's about it. What do they do after that? I'm 30 and missed my chance to be a kid prodigy in programming or math and clearly not happening now. Is there an area where you can be good at as you get older and what is the old man's game options as a programmer?

TLDR: Click the link to see some cool visualizations, refresh a few times for random examples, and try editing some of the code yourself. This is a small weekend project of mine inspired by shadertoy.com It's a static single-page site hosted on GitHub pages so the website design is pretty barebones. I'm not a web developer so I mainly wanted to create a Cool Thing with my free time and not have to learn tons of front-end to do it. I'd love to hear what people think about it and please post or send me any shaders you make! You can use the link button in the bottom right to share. I hope that this gets more people interested in shaders because GPU programming is a pretty different paradigm and learning it has made me a better software engineer even though my current job doesn't touch it. That said, textshader only runs normal Javascript on the CPU so think of it like a simplified sandbox and not the real thing. I'd highly recommend checking out shadertoy to level up to the real deal too!

I think I don't know how to discover features that I'm interested in, in code bases that I'm unfamiliar with. Example: In Chromium I want to find the algorithm that is building the DOM.
