We'd often bonded over Paul Graham's "Do Things That Don't Scale", so it was a no-brainer that every month, like clockwork, we'd get on that €50 Ryanair flight to London, to spend a week pitching potential customers / partners / anyone who would listen. We tried as best we could to rotate which lucky friend or family members' sofa we would be sleeping on each time, so as not to out-stay our welcome. One event that we ended up doing again and again was called TechHub Tuesday Demo Night. It was an epic monthly event (first Tuesday of every month) hosted by the most sought after startup co-working space on London's famous "Silicon Roundabout" (yes, us English can't quite fill a valley yet with our startup scene, but we sure can fill a roundabout!). The event was an opportunity for up-and-coming startups to show (not tell) what they had built, and get instant feedback from the community. Importantly, you had to have built something (an app / website / platform / etc.) and, unlike competing events, it wasn't about trying to pitch for investment. It was a welcoming, enthusiastic audience of fellow entrepreneurs, builders and product lovers. Pitching your product here was always a buzz. Unfortunately, like many other great ventures, TechHub London was one of the unlucky victims of Covid 19. In the summer of 2020 they slipped into administration, and with it TechHub Tuesday Demo Night. We've very much missed it - both presenting and attending - so we have decided to do something about it. I've quickly added ZincSearch and it is now basically a search engine which can search for hashes, name or files contained in the torrents. It is able to index around 5-10k annoucements per second, so the index grows quite fast. Now, I am thinking about releasing it as open-source for others to study, but not sure if I should, because it might be used for "evil".

The amount of dramatic clickbaity hollow content is only getting worse and kinda saddening me. My only escape is RSS with few hand-picked blogs. But, it seems like the chance of finding new thoughtful and cool blogs are getting closer to zero. I'm worried I might be putting myself in a bubble here.

I am seeing lots of posts on HN about layoffs. So and so company fired 1000 people, so and so company reduced it's workforce by 20%, etc. We have normalised firing of people. I don't know about the "developed" countries where people have social security, but for countries like India where there is no social security and stigma is associated with being laid off, it is a very difficult situation. I remember asking few years ago to my sister's husband, who runs our family business, what keeps him awake at night with regards to business. His answer, "Not messing up". I was expecting something like "Funding", "Losing sales" etc. But hearing his answer surprised me. Because it sounded personal. So I asked him what does he mean? And he said, "The company has about 100 employees, but I am not just responsible for 100 employees. I am responsible for about 400 to 600 people. Each employee has a family. They make their future plans because they have an income from this company. They have to fund their kids education, they have to look after their aging parents, they might have taken a loan for daughter's marriage or for a house. They are relying on me. If I mess up, I affect lives of 400 to 600 people. That keeps me awake." Some how firing/laying-off has been trivialised.

Google has rolled out its October update for Pixel devices and it brings plenty of bug fixes. Several connectivity, user-interface, and audio related issues have been fixed. The update will be rolling out to Pixel 4a and 6a that are officially sold in India.

So you moved your apps off Heroku, where did you go to and how has it worked out? Particularly interested in: 1. How much work it took to move apps (be honest) 2. How much experience you had at the time of the migration - e.g. on one extreme your entire devops experience may consist of just Heroku (that's me) or on the other extreme you may be a k8s guru (this helps others gauge how they'll go) 3. How valuable were your learnings? E.g. replacing Heroku with an IAAS instead of another PAAS might take longer but give more fundamental learnings, and hence be worth it for some 4. Cost comparison 5. Summary/description of your apps (e.g. 20 tiny apps with a few hits per month, 5 medium with ~20k hits per month, 2 large with 1-2m hits per month type thing). Please give language/framework. 6. Anything else you want to add
